On our recent road trip to Rouen to visit Sr Marcelline, we were blessed beyond words by the warmth, joy, and heartfelt hospitality of the Sisters of Providence. What was already a meaningful visit became an unforgettable celebration of faith, community, and love.

Upon our arrival, we were met by Sisters from all the communities in France who had gathered specially for the occasion. Each community introduced themselves with such grace and openness, giving us a rich sense of the diversity and unity that characterises the Congregation. Their presence was a powerful sign of support and solidarity for Sr Marcelline and for all of us who share in the life and mission of the Sisters.

We were treated to a wonderful welcome: tables filled with delicious homemade dishes, vibrant songs sung from the heart, and laughter shared generously. A few brothers from the seminary in Madagascar were also present, bringing with them the spirit and joy of the Church in Africa and reminding us of the global family to which we all belong.

During our time at the motherhouse, we were shown around the convent, beginning with a visit to the beautiful chapel, simple and prayerful, steeped in the prayer of generations. The Sisters generously shared the story of their founding, their charism, and the rhythm of their life together. We were moved by the peace that radiated from their life of prayer, service, and community.

We also visited the library, which holds not only spiritual texts and historical records of the congregation, but also books and materials that support the Sisters’ educational mission. It was inspiring to see their long-standing commitment to education and human development, particularly among the poor. Our tour concluded with a walk around the school, where the charism of Providence continues to bear fruit in the lives of young people today.

Sr Marcelline, whom we had come to visit, was in wonderful spirits. Surrounded by her Sisters and receiving the best of care, she looked truly at home. It was clear that being back in the heart of her community has given her strength and comfort as she continues to recover. We brought with us cards, messages, and prayers from England, all of which she received with deep gratitude and emotion. She sends her love and prayers in return, for all of us, and especially for Sr Adeline, Sr Mary, and Sr Chantel.

We also had the joy of meeting Sr Clarisse , who will soon be joining the Sisters in England. Her quiet strength, warmth, and deep sense of mission will be a tremendous blessing to the communities here. We look forward to welcoming her in due course.

As we returned home, we carried with us not only the joy of having seen Sr Marcelline so well, but also the renewed sense of connection with the wider family of the Sisters of Providence. It was a moment of grace and encouragement, a glimpse of the Church at its best: international, intergenerational, joyfully faithful.

Please continue to keep Sr Marcelline and all the Sisters in your prayers. May their witness of hope and Providence continue to inspire us all.
