Confirmation Retreat at Worth Abbey
On Saturday 22nd March, young people from the Catholic churches in Seaford, Peacehaven, and East Brighton gathered at the beautiful Worth Abbey for a day of prayer, reflection, and encounter with Our Lord and one another. Surrounded by the peaceful Sussex countryside and the prayerful rhythm of monastic life, this retreat was a significant step on their journey towards the Sacrament of Confirmation.
A Day of Spiritual Growth
Led by Mary Ann, Claire, and Julia, the retreat offered our candidates a time to step away from the busyness of everyday life and focus on their relationship with God. Through engaging talks, group discussions, and personal reflection, they explored what it truly means to be confirmed in the Catholic faith…strengthened by the Holy Spirit to live as disciples of Christ in the world today.
The day was structured around prayer, formation, and fellowship. Participants joined the monks of Worth Abbey for times of communal prayer, experiencing the beauty of sung psalms and silent contemplation. These moments of worship were a powerful reminder of the presence of God and the deep tradition of the Church.
Encountering Christ and One Another
Throughout the retreat, the candidates had the opportunity to share their thoughts, ask questions, and encourage each other in faith. Guided meditations and quiet reflection time allowed them to listen to God’s voice in their hearts. The leaders encouraged them to consider the gifts of the Holy Spirit and how they are called to live their faith with courage and love.
As the day came to a close, there was a real sense of joy and unity among the group. Many spoke of feeling more connected to their faith and excited for their upcoming Confirmation.
Looking Forward
This retreat at Worth Abbey was not just a one-day event but a key milestone in the candidates’ spiritual journey. As they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, we pray that the graces of this retreat continue to inspire and strengthen them in their commitment to Christ and His Church.
May the Holy Spirit guide and bless each of these young people as they take this important step in faith!
